We are now into the second week of the new year, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to have a look ahead at what to expect in 2022 in our sector, as well as providing a summary of the services provided by Castec Consulting.
What to expect in 2022
The first noteworthy event for this year is the almost 20 General Safety Regulation (GSR) subjects that will become mandatory for the Type Approval of new vehicle types in all EU Member States from 6th July. The subjects include:
Driver drowsiness
Event data recorders
Cyber security
I will provide further information on the GSR as we approach the deadline.
It is expected that the new GB Type Approval Scheme will be available on an optional basis from 1st August for vehicles in categories M, N and O (cars, vans, buses, trucks and trailers). The scheme will then become mandatory for categories M and N on 1st January 2023. Lots of questions remain about the scheme and I will seek to provide updates within this blog as things become clearer.
In addition, it is worth noting that from 1st January 2023 businesses must use the certification mark UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) for applicable products across all sectors placed on the market in Great Britain. This is the replacement for the EU’s CE Marking regulations. This is causing some unease within the automotive industry, specifically in relation to the marking of spare parts for repairs/ exchange. It is understood that BEIS is reviewing their interpretation of this requirement as a result of pressure from the industry. I will keep you posted with any updates.
